Welcome to the Strawberry Fire Safe Council

  OUR STORY

It was back in May 2021 that 40 residents of Strawberry held a community meeting to discuss wildfire preparedness. From this meeting several people volunteered to continue this effort going forward.

On August 8th 2021, these volunteers attended a meeting with Heather Campbell,  President of the Pollock PInes Firesafe Council, and Board Member of the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council. That day she commented that we needed to adopt a "WHEN---NOT IF" mentality regarding wildfires threatening Strawberry. She was insistent that forming our own FSC (Fire Safe Council) would be a major step toward receiving the guidance and support that could greatly benefit our community.

12 DAYS LATER WE WERE EVACUATED FROM OUR HOMES.

1 MONTH LATER WE WERE ALLOWED TO RETURN.

In early October we applied for membership to the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council.

On November 17th 2021, by unanimous vote, we were accepted and welcomed as an affiliate council for all private property owners in our Strawberry Community.

On May 21, 2022 our 2nd community-wide meeting was held, this time as the Strawberry Fire Safe Council. The Strawberry FSC had applied for and received up to $5000.00 in funding for green waste dumpsters. Also, the chipper program became available through the El Dorado County FSC.

It is mutually beneficial for all of us to complete this tremendous task of creating defensible space on our individual properties, and by doing so we can attain the goal of protecting our Strawberry community as a whole.

Truly, we are all in this together!
